Oak Grove

A resident of Oak Grove, Louisiana, Commissioner Archie Carraway is a licensed broker affiliated with Shackelford-French Real Estate, Inc., in West Monroe, Louisiana. He is a graduate of Louisiana Tech University, with a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering.

Upon graduation from Louisiana Tech, he spent a short time working as a rough-neck awaiting induction into the U.S. Army.  During the next 3 years, he was either in Basic Training (3 months) or performing his duties as a radar operator in a Missile Battalion in San Francisco. After   discharge from the Army, he went to work for Schlumberger Well Services in Shreveport, Louisiana.  His time with Schlumberger was spent as a Field Engineer, with assignments in Mississippi, Arkansas, and Florida, before promotion to District Manager.  This promotion moved his family to assignments in Wyoming, West Virginia and Oklahoma before a transfer to Denver, Colorado, to write a training program for the Western Region of Schlumberger Well Services.  Upon completion, he was transferred to New Iberia, Louisiana, and 4 years later the oil bust of 1982 occurred.  He was laid off and went to work for CRC Wireline for 5 years before the company filed for bankruptcy.  At this point, he decided to have a career adjustment and got a real estate license to help his wife in her real estate business.  They moved to Monroe, Louisiana in 1987 and started from scratch to build a successful career in the real estate business.  He worked for 3 companies as an agent and then offered to manage Century 21 Riverside in 1990. Two years later, he made an offer to purchase the business, and it was accepted.  At this time, the company had 5 agents, which he grew to 15 agents, and the company became a force in the Monroe/West Monroe market.  The market share grew to about 15%, and the company consistently ranked in the top five in market share.  The company was sold in 2000 and he worked for 2 years with the buyer to complete his non-compete contract.

Commissioner Carraway has been married to Jean Reeves Carraway for over 51 years. They have two children and 3 grandchildren.
